Life got a little busy!
So I know I haven't been doing a good job of keeping my blog updated, but I'm trying to make the time these days to do the things I love like riding, and writing on this blog.
Horse News :
Well, Malibu got to go to the trainer for a month and a half and it was the best decision I think I have made with her. The trainer I sent her to exposes them to a lot and I was told there is always a lot going on around her house. So with Malibu being a little weird about certain things, I thought why not give it a try. So Jill got her to be softer for the first week or so before starting anything barrel related, then to the barrels they went! She was trotting a really nice pattern when I figured I would leave her until she was loping a nice pattern. So I picked Malibu up, and since then I've been continuing getting her confident with loping, and she has been doing awesome with it. I've been hailing her to a barrel race every weekend and trotting exhibitions so by the time she is ready to lope during an exhibition, hopefully she won't be too scared about banners and the pop up barrels. She stands tied to the trailer very well, even with no hay bag most of the time, and even snoozes while Boss and I are warming up and running.
So yesterday, June 14th, I warmed her up and asking Josey to work her on the pattern, and I think she gave us both a shock. She was awesome!! She is starting to put everything together as long as I can remember to over-exaggerate holding her in the end of her turns. I wish I had a video, but instead, my phone thought it was a good idea to take one picture instead of the video it said it was taking........ #nothappy. But on the bright side, I can get another video next week. It was super awesome to see someone on my horse and her doing well! I am super excited to see how she finishes out.
Well after the awesome work she did, Malibu needed to be hosed off badly. Unfortunately it is a bit like pulling teeth to get her hosed of haha, a two-person job for sure. Thankfully Josey and I are determined to get her used to it. It isn't so much the water she hates, but the hose moving in the grass around her. Weird right? Well she is a bit goofy, but she's my goofy and I will deal with it lol.
So enjoy some pictures of the last couple of weeks involving my horses, and a new little something I got ;)
Before Josey worked Malibu through the barrels :)
Sneak peak at my new saddle
Getting a bath was obviously hard work!
Boss has been doing rather well also!! Two weekends ago we went to Bell, Florida (a small indoor pen), which he has had trouble with a lot. My goal was to run a 16 and he ran a 16.8! I was thrilled. This was the first indoor pen he has run in totally confident in himself, hunting the first barrel. He had been running in and ducking to the right. But we had an awesome run (with no exhibition) and I was so so proud of him. We even got some awesome pictures!!
Then last weekend, I took him and another horse to Luverne, and I placed on the other horse I ran, but decided to scratch on Boss because he wasn't warming up very well, sort of telling me he may buck, and he even kicked out on the lunge line. I didn't ride him everyday that week like I normally do, so it was the best decision. I plan on taking him back to that pen whenever I can since it is a big open pen, and he loves being able to stretch out, just after he has been properly ridden the week of.
So the big news, I got my own horse trailer!!!!

I had been using my aunts which was amazing! It was a blue 2-horse with a little bit of living quarters and it has gotten me and my horses where we needed to go for a few years! Thankfully I was able to get something a little bit lighter for the long run and I couldn't be any happier!!
And Boss has been looking pretty awesome lately!!
I've got some big things coming up! Two barrel races before Josey and I leave for a two week drive-cation with Ericka to help her get to several rodeos out west!! So stay tuned for some pictures of our barrel races and our trip!!
